چکیده

J.HE SYMPATHETIC-ADRENAL medullary system was the first endocrine system to be studied experimentally with regard to the possible participation of emotional factors in its regulation. The concept that the adrenal gland might be susceptible to emotional stimuli was developed by Walter Cannon with characteristic logic. He reasoned that: (1) it was known that the adrenal medulla is linked to the sympathetic nervous system; (2) many physiological changes known to accompany emotional arousal, such as dilation of the pupils, fast pulse, piloerection, and inhibition of gastrointestinal function, etc., are all signs of increased sympathetic nervous system activity; and (3) therefore, as he put it, "Do not the adrenal glands share in this widespread subjugation of the viscera to sympathetic control?" Cannon had been perhaps predisposed to think along these c-<ginal lines as a result of the deep impussion made upon him, in his early experience as an investigator, by noting the marked sensitivity of the stomach and intestines to psychological stimuli.

Evaluation of the Neuroendocrine System and the cytokine pattern in warm and cold nature persons.

Introduction: Traditional Iranian medicine (TIM) is accompanied by little side effects in experience. The mechanisms involved in TIM are not much clear. The purpose of this study is assessment of differences of warm and cold nature persons in neuroendocrine system and cytokine pattern (Th1/Th2) of immune responses. Methods: Thirty seven 20 to 40 years old male volunteers were divided into 2 ...

Methionine-enkephalin and leucine-enkephalin in human sympathoadrenal system and pheochromocytoma.

To elucidate the physiological and pathophysiological significance of methionine- and leucine-enkephalin (Met-and Leu-enkephalin, respectively) in human sympathoadrenal system, the contents of these peptides in normal human sympathetic nervous system, adrenal medulla, and pheochromocytomas were determined by specific radioimmunoassays combined with reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromato...

P 75: Inflammation in the Pathogenesis of Depression

Depression is a mental disorder that results from changes in the central nervous system (CNS) that may result from immunological abnormalities. According to the World Health Organization, major depression will become the leading cause of disability worldwide. Accumulating evidence has indicated the existence of reciprocal communication pathways between nervous, endocrine and immune systems. The...

نقش سایکونورومدولاتوری هورمون آزاد‌کننده کورتیکوتروپین در زنان مبتلا به PCOS

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common complex condition in women associated with reproductive and metabolic systems and also psychological disorders. There is considerable evidence to suggest that the sympathetic nervous system is involved in PCO and metabolic syndromes. Noradrenalin (NA), corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH) and nerve growth factor (NGF) are the strong sti...

Sympathoadrenal activity in fasting pregnant rats. Dissociation of adrenal medullary and sympathetic nervous system responses.

The pattern of urinary catecholamine excretion in fasting differs in pregnant and nonpregnant rats, which suggests that the sympathoadrenal response to fasting is altered by pregnancy. In fasting nonpregnant animals, urinary norepinephrine (NE) excretion decreases and epinephrine (E) excretion remains unchanged, whereas the excretion of both catecholamines rises significantly with refeeding. In...
